Binance Faces Regulatory Heat Over $676M Inflows From Iran-Linked Exchange

Binance is under fresh scrutiny following reports that $676 million in crypto flowed into the exchange from an unlicensed, Iran-linked entity in Dubai. Over $540 million of those transfers occurred after local authorities fined the firm for regulatory breaches. The developments threaten to trigger further oversight from regulators monitoring Binance following its 2023 plea deal.

Fresh regulatory friction is mounting around Binance after reports revealed over $676 million in crypto flowed into the exchange from Shelbit, an unlicensed Dubai entity linked to Iranian sanctions evasion networks. Data shows at least $540 million hit the platform after Dubai regulators issued enforcement notices against the shadow firm in early 2025.

Independent researchers previously alerted Binance to the wallet routes, yet on-chain data confirms substantial transfers continued. Binance maintained that its compliance team froze flagged accounts and reported suspicious activity to law enforcement, stating its external analytics tools failed to classify the incoming transfers as high risk.

The news comes while Binance remains subject to a three-year independent compliance monitoring program following its $4.3 billion settlement with US authorities. With Treasury officials evaluating the wallet links, renewed regulatory pressure could trigger fresh enforcement steps across major offshore liquidity venues.
