Hackers Hold 87% of Stolen $114.7M Bitcoin Idle Following Mass Coldcard Exploit
Galaxy Research has traced $114.7 million in Bitcoin lost in a massive Coldcard wallet security breach. Surprisingly, the perpetrators are keeping 87% of the stolen capital dormant across controlled addresses rather than routing it through mixers. Market participants are closely watching these tagged wallets for potential sell pressure if funds begin moving.
Galaxy Research has tracked 1,789 Bitcoin stolen across 8,865 victim addresses linked to a severe breach involving Coldcard hardware users. Total damages stand at $114.7 million, making it one of the largest self-custody hits in recent history.
Despite the massive haul, the attacker has left 1,561 Bitcoin dormant in controlled wallets. More than 87% of the total stolen capital remains completely untouched, raising questions about whether the perpetrator faces liquidation hurdles or is playing a longer game.
Market analysts and on-chain intelligence desks are now hyper-focused on these tagged addresses. Any sudden movement toward exchanges or mixing protocols could spark localized market volatility.
