Ripple Buys UK Tech Stakes to Power Real-World Asset Tokenization on XRPL

Ripple has acquired equity stakes in UK financial infrastructure firms ZILO and Licuido to bolster institutional tokenization on the XRP Ledger. While institutional rails are expanding, settlement mechanisms confirm that trades resolve in RLUSD stablecoins rather than native XRP. This setup keeps fee burns minimal even as high-value asset collateral flows onto the network.

Ripple is buying its way deeper into institutional finance with strategic equity stakes in UK asset infrastructure providers ZILO and Licuido. The move addresses a core bottleneck in real-world asset tokenization: converting static fund tokens into active collateral for institutional borrowing and margin management. By backing ZILO alongside major global custody banks, Ripple is establishing direct pipelines for registered fund management on the XRP Ledger.

However, value accrual mechanics reveal a clear divergence for native token holders. Institutional trades and borrowing markets on the network are built to settle in RLUSD, Ripple's US dollar stablecoin. XRP remains restricted to its baseline role as a network fee asset, consuming fractions of a cent per transaction that are permanently destroyed.

With fourteen years of ledger activity generating just fifteen million dollars in total burned fees, on-chain transaction volume alone delivers minimal structural upward pressure on token valuation. An impending sponsored fee upgrade could reduce native gas utility further, anchoring institutional growth firmly to stablecoin rails while native token demand stays stagnant.
