Trump Endorses Hyperliquid as CFTC Opens Compliance Path for US Perps
Donald Trump named Hyperliquid as his ninth crypto endorsement, sending the token surging over 21% to $71. While all eight previous Trump-backed tokens are down 60% on average, HYPE stands out with active CFTC regulatory momentum behind it. Market participants are watching whether Michael Selig's agency delivers real US perp compliance or another political fade.
Donald Trump dropped his ninth token endorsement at a White House summit, revealing CFTC Chairman Michael Selig is working to bring Hyperliquid legally into the US market. The announcement triggered a rapid 21% price jump, pushing HYPE past $71 and lifting its market capitalization to $15.9 billion.
History offers a stark warning for momentum buyers. Every previous Trump-endorsed asset—including ADA, SOL, and XRP—faded heavily after initial pops, sitting down an average of 60% from pre-endorsement levels once official promises sputtered out.
However, Hyperliquid brings something previous picks lacked: active regulatory traction at the agency level. The CFTC approved onshore perpetual futures frameworks earlier this year and is currently evaluating joint petitions from Hyperliquid and wallet providers.
If Selig's advisory panel formalizes a legal pathway for decentralized perps, HYPE could break the structural pattern that crushed earlier presidential pumps. For now, the key test lies in holding ground above $62 as regulatory timelines unfold over the next 90 days.
