WEMIX and Garden Finance Hit by Exploits Amid Record Crypto Breach Count

WEMIX and Garden Finance faced security incidents, leading to unauthorized token issuance and asset drains. These exploits contribute to a record number of crypto breaches in H1 2026. While attack frequency surges, total stolen value has notably declined.

WEMIX reported unauthorized issuance of 5.2 million WEMIX$ tokens, swiftly converted to WEMIX, USDC.e, ETH, and USDT. Funds moved across bridges to Ethereum and BSC, with some reaching centralized exchanges. WEMIX has requested CEXs and stablecoin issuers to freeze the attacker's wallets and temporarily suspended all WEMIX3.0 bridges.

Separately, Garden Finance took its application offline after identifying unusual activity. Blockaid flagged approximately $450,000 in USDT drained across Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, and BSC.

These incidents underscore a broader trend: crypto security breaches are at an all-time high. TRM Labs recorded 207 hacks in H1 2026, more than double the 83 from the previous year.

However, the total value lost has seen a sharp decline, dropping from $2.3 billion in H1 2025 to $972 million in H1 2026. This indicates a shift towards more frequent, yet individually smaller, exploits.
