Worldcoin Foundation offloaded 217.4 million WLD tokens, raising $52.5 million from institutional investors including Pantera Capital. The sale, priced at $0.2415 per WLD with a 12-month lockup, saw WLD's price slide over 10% in 24 hours. This capital injection aims to expand World ID's enterprise and AI integration.
Worldcoin Foundation executed a significant token sale, offloading 217.4 million WLD at an implied price of $0.2415 per token to raise $52.5 million. This capital injection, led by Pantera Capital and backed by firms like Bain Capital Crypto, comes with a 12-month lockup for all purchased tokens. Despite the institutional backing, WLD price action reacted sharply, dropping over 10% in 24 hours.
The funds are earmarked to push World ID into enterprise platforms, consumer applications, and AI agents, leveraging the "Proof of Human" narrative. Pantera emphasized the round as a strategic bet on business demand, not retail speculation, citing the growing need for human verification in the accelerating AI landscape. This follows previous WLD sales totaling over $200 million.
The sale occurred despite WLD already facing sustained price pressure and recent tokenomics adjustments, including a 43% reduction in daily emissions on July 24. While Bitcoin and Ethereum saw gains, WLD's 30-day performance shows a 32.8% slide, making its decline an outlier in the broader market.
The Foundation reports robust network growth, with over 39 million people joining and 18 million completing Orb verification. However, this adoption has yet to translate into positive market sentiment for the token. The 12-month lockup provides a temporary buffer, but future price action hinges on enterprise traction materializing before July 2027.
