First US Spot Bitcoin ETF Delists as Hashdex Shuts Down Fund

Hashdex is shutting down its spot Bitcoin ETF after attracting just 14 million dollars in assets, marking the first closure in the US market. Generating under seven thousand dollars in quarterly fees made the operation unsustainable. The delisting underscores a brutal institutional reality where extreme scale dictates ETF survival.

The brutal reality of Wall Street fee wars has claimed its first crypto casualty. Hashdex is officially shuttering its spot Bitcoin ETF on NYSE Arca after accumulating just $14.5 million in assets, proving that passive management is a game reserved strictly for mega-titans.

Generating a meager $6,453 in quarterly revenue against heavy custody, audit, and legal overhead made the product unsustainable. While fund giants manage tens of billions charging the same 0.25% fee, small issuers simply cannot cover basic operations without massive volume.

Investors have until August 17 to exit before the fund liquidates its remaining 225 Bitcoin on the open market. The sell pressure from liquidating roughly $14 million in holdings is negligible for broader spot prices, but the structural takeaway is undeniable: the long tail of tail-end ETF products is facing an aggressive shake-up.
